- Oharrak: The activities would be particularly relevant for someone considering an academic career or a career involving social, economic, or business studies research in the private or public sectors. The trainee will take the role of ‘Research Assistant’ supporting Prof Graham Parkhurst undertaking research on the theme of future mobility’. There is currently a lot of interest about new forms of mobility services provided by electric and automated road and air vehicles (automated cars, taxis, buses, aitaxis and drones. However, these proposals raise two key questions:
1) Do people want them? Innovative mobility is Only likely to be useful to people if innovators, citizens and other ‘stakeholders’ understand the emerging ecosystems
2) Can these new mobility services contribute to sustainability goals? To answer this question it is necessary to explore the motivations of industry echnologists, businesses, and social entrepreneurs and to understand their proposed ‘business models’.
The research trainee will assist with the design and delivery of research with entrepreneurs and the public that will explore how far ‘future mobility’ is desirable
and relevant through specific example case-study service niches. Indicative possible tasks are:
• helping with recruitment
• assisting with the preparation of materials to use in the workshops (exercises, information materials, ‘serious games’
• drafting surveys
• helping to record qualitative information in the workshop
• undertaking (with support and direction) analysis of the data collected
